Joseph Fridman is an Editor at IFP, where he edits work on the political and practical machinery of progress, including Construction Physics and The Launch Sequence.

Before joining IFP, Joseph led communications at Convergent Research, the nonprofit that launches Focused Research Organizations, where he remains a strategic advisor. From 2020 to 2025 he was at Ginkgo Bioworks, most recently as Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, and a senior editor at Grow by Ginkgo.

He leads Beyond the Ivory Tower, a John Templeton Foundation–supported program at Wake Forest University that supports academics writing for wide audiences. He is a Non-resident Fellow at Arq Foundation in Brussels. His own writing has appeared in Aeon, Elemental, and Templeton Ideas.

Joseph studied cognitive science and journalism and holds a JD from the City University of New York School of Law.
